‘In the Name of a Senior’... Dong-A University, Cheongchon Scholarship Foundation Scholarship and Research Fund Award Ceremony

14 Dong-A University Professors Receive 70 Million KRW

50.5 Million KRW Distributed to 32 Undergraduates

In the name of a senior alumnus...


A scholarship named after a graduate's pen name was generously donated to the alma mater as research funds and scholarships for juniors.


Dong-A University (President Lee Hae-woo) announced on the 13th that on the 10th, it awarded a total of 120.5 million KRW in scholarships from the 27th Cheongchon Scholarship Foundation and research funds to 32 students and 14 professors.

‘In the Name of a Senior’... Dong-A University, Cheongchon Scholarship Foundation Scholarship and Research Fund Award Ceremony On the 10th, the 27th Cheongchon Scholarship Foundation Scholarship and Faculty Research Fund Award Ceremony was held at Dong-A University.

The Cheongchon Scholarship Foundation was established in 1995, named after the pen name of Kim Man-su, chairman of Dong-A Tire Industry and a 1956 graduate of Dong-A University's Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering. Since 1999, it has been providing scholarships and research funds to nurture talent and support the development of Dong-A University.


The Cheongchon Scholarship Foundation, the largest scholarship fund within and outside Dong-A University, has supported over 1,300 students and professors with a total of more than 2.8 billion KRW to date.


On the morning of the 10th, a ceremony was held at Cheongchon Hall on Dong-A University's Seunghak Campus, attended by President Lee Hae-woo and administrative professors. Also present were Ryu Si-gyun, Head of Management Support Division 1 at Dong-A Tire, Choi Hak-yu, Executive Director of the Cheongchon Scholarship Foundation, Director Choi Jae-ryong, Shin Jeong-taek, President of the Alumni Association, and Koo Moon-gap, Chairman of the Sinpyeong Jangnim Industrial Complex Management Corporation (Alumni Association Director and Chairman of Cheongho Refrigeration).


Executive Director Choi Hak-yu said, “I hope the research funds and scholarships will be used valuably for the research and studies of professors and students,” adding, “Let us unite as members of Dong-A with ambition and a spirit of challenge to devote all our efforts to nurturing talent for the Fourth Industrial Revolution and AI era, and develop the university into a world-class institution.”


He also promised, “The Cheongchon Scholarship Foundation and its parent company, Dong-A Tire Group, will do their best to support this cause.”


President Lee Hae-woo said, “I hope all beneficiaries will elevate the university’s honor and contribute to the local community,” and added, “With the great spirit of Chairman Kim Man-su, who loves his alma mater deeply, and the Cheongchon Scholarship Foundation’s noble intentions in mind, we will devote our efforts to the university’s development.”


This year, research funds totaling 70 million KRW were awarded to 14 professors, including 10 from Dong-A University such as Professor Son Hong-rak of the Law School, and 4 from Seoul National University, Yonsei University, Korea University, and KAIST, with each receiving 5 million KRW. Undergraduate scholarships totaling 50.5 million KRW were given to 32 students, including Jeong Jae-kyung (3rd year, Department of New Materials Physics), with each receiving 1.5 million KRW.


Professors who receive research funds submit papers annually to the Cheongchon Nonchong journal. The 24th volume was published this year and is distributed free of charge to university libraries and research institutions nationwide.


Chairman Kim Man-su of Cheongchon has also donated 200 million KRW to the university development fund, 1 billion KRW for law school scholarships, and supported 200 million KRW for remodeling Cheongchon Hall.


The total amount Chairman Kim has contributed or donated to his alma mater, including the foundation’s scholarship projects, reaches 10.9345 billion KRW.
