2-3 Month Vocational Training with Training and Employment Allowance Provided
A job support project that provides reemployment opportunities to middle-aged and older adults facing the risk of unemployment is being launched in Daegu.
On the 13th, Daegu City announced that it will implement the ‘Restart 4050 Employment-Linked Job Support Project,’ which offers comprehensive support including ‘individual diagnosis and career counseling, labor market-tailored vocational training, and post-employment follow-up management’ to provide stable employment opportunities for middle-aged and older adults at risk of job loss.
The project targets local middle-aged and older adults (aged 40 to 59), with a recruitment quota of 74 people. It separately recruits 54 people for four courses aimed at job seekers and 20 people for two courses aimed at those currently employed.
Selected participants will receive individual counseling and career diagnosis from professional career counselors, and based on their identified aptitudes, they will be supported with vocational training courses and professional certification acquisition education. After completing the training, they will receive an additional six months of follow-up support, including various employment and adaptation counseling, to help them secure and settle into jobs.
The training is free of charge, and participants in the job seeker courses who achieve an attendance rate of 80% or higher will receive a training allowance of up to 600,000 KRW per month. Upon completing the course and securing employment, they will receive an employment incentive of 800,000 KRW. Participants in the employed courses will receive an acquisition incentive of 500,000 KRW upon obtaining a professional certification after completing the course.
The training courses for job seekers include interior construction, specialized welding practice, ICT network office practice, and career counselor training. For those currently employed, courses include acquiring eco-friendly wallpapering and painting technician certification, electric vehicle practice, and automobile professional appraiser certification.
Starting this year, basic computer skills education is also available for middle-aged and older participants who are not proficient with computers, upon request.
Middle-aged and older adults wishing to participate in the vocational training can apply through the Daegu Vocational Training Foundation website or inquire directly at the training centers. Training will begin immediately once the class capacity is met for each course.
Ahn Jung-gon, Director of the Daegu City Economic Bureau, said, “This project is designed to connect middle-aged and older adults facing unemployment or early retirement due to industrial structural changes with practical training tailored to the local labor market, leading to actual employment. We hope many middle-aged and older adults seeking high-quality, stable jobs that match their aptitudes will participate.”
