'The Glory' Director Accused of School Violence... Netflix "Under Review"

"High School Senior PD Angilho Accused of 2-Hour Assault"
'The Glory' Scheduled for Release at 5 PM as Planned

Director An Gil-ho, who directed the Netflix drama "The Glory" about school violence, has been accused of being a perpetrator of school violence.

On the 10th, a post was uploaded on a Korean-American community bulletin board in the United States claiming that An PD had committed school violence during his study abroad in the Philippines in 1996. The author stated that An PD was a high school senior at the time, and the victims were middle school 2nd grade students attending an international school.

The author said that while An PD was attending a high school in the Philippines, he dated a middle school 2nd grade student. Classmates teased the middle school student for dating a high school senior, and in response, An PD allegedly gathered a group of about ten people and beat the author and classmates for two hours. During this incident, An PD also threatened them by looking for a knife.

The author said, "Can someone who committed such acts shamelessly become a PD of a drama about school violence?" and added, "I am posting this because I am baffled whether the perpetrators really forget as time passes."

Attempts to contact Director An Gil-ho were unsuccessful as his phone is currently turned off. A Netflix representative told Asia Economy, "We are currently verifying the facts."

An PD joined SBS as a producer in 2007 and left in 2016. Afterwards, he directed dramas such as "Stranger" (2017), "Memories of the Alhambra" (2018), and "The Glory" Parts 1 and 2. "The Glory" depicts the story of Moon Dong-eun, whose soul was shattered by school violence, preparing a brutal revenge against the perpetrators as an adult. Netflix released Part 2 as scheduled at 5 p.m. on the same day.
