Goheung - Wando Council Business Agreement for Regional Balanced Development

Urging the Opening of Goheung~Wando Coastal Tourist Road

The Jeonnam Goheung County Council (Chairman Lee Jae-hak) announced on the 8th that it has signed a business agreement with the Wando County Council (Chairman Heo Gung-hee) to urge the construction of the coastal tourist road between Goheung and Wando.

This agreement was made to gather the will of 110,000 residents of both counties and to cooperate mutually so that the project can be promptly promoted, as the coastal tourist road between Goheung and Wando has been stagnant since it was upgraded to National Road No. 27 in June 2021.

The Goheung-Wando coastal tourist road project connects Geogeumdo in Goheung County to Geumdang, Sindo, Geumil, and Yaksan in Wando County via five bridges, spanning a total length of 42.4 km. The project involves a national budget investment of 900 billion KRW, and once the road is constructed, the distance will be reduced by 88 km, significantly shortening travel time.

The agreement includes ▲ mutual exchange of work to expedite the commencement of the Goheung-Wando coastal tourist road ▲ continuous expansion of private exchanges to revitalize the local economy.

Lee Jae-hak, Chairman of the Goheung County Council, stated, “The construction of the Goheung-Wando coastal tourist road will improve living conditions for island residents and enhance accessibility, thereby activating human and material exchanges.” He added, “It is expected to play a role as a key route in the South Coast marine tourism belt and lay the foundation for a marine tourism hub city.”

Meanwhile, the Goheung County Council and Wando County Council decided to adopt a joint resolution at the March extraordinary session to ensure the prompt promotion of the Goheung-Wando coastal tourist road construction project and to convey the strong will of 110,000 residents of both counties to the National Assembly and relevant government departments.
