Joint Campaign with Related Agencies and Vehicle Emission Inspection
On the 9th, the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office held a 'Reducing Fine Dust' event at the truck house in Busan Port New Port.
As part of the spring fine dust total response plan, the event promoted a campaign encouraging cargo truck drivers to participate in 'Reducing Fine Dust' and provided focused support for vehicle management, including free emission inspections for operating vehicles.
The event was jointly participated by the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office, Busan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office, Busan Metropolitan City, Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam, Busan Port Authority, and Hyundai Motor Company.
Busan Port is a logistics and transportation hub where large cargo trucks frequently move, making it a region that requires focused management of vehicle emissions to improve air quality in the port area.
To prevent excessive fine dust emissions from large diesel vehicles, free emission inspections and large truck maintenance consultation services were provided. Promotion of fine dust reduction measures in the transportation sector, such as restrictions on operating grade 5 vehicles and expansion of early scrapping support targets, was also conducted.
Recognizing the importance of managing emissions from operating vehicles, which are major sources of fine dust, the event provided an opportunity for drivers to inspect and maintain their own vehicles. The 'Reducing Fine Dust' event is planned to be held once more on the 23rd in cooperation with related organizations.
Starting this year, the early scrapping subsidy support target has been expanded from grade 5 diesel vehicles to include grade 4 diesel vehicles as well as excavators and forklifts, so an informational banner was permanently posted at the entrance of the truck house to guide owners to inquire about related details.
Owners of grade 4 and 5 emission vehicles can check eligibility and apply for early scrapping through the vehicle emission website. Grade 4 and 5 vehicles, forklifts, and excavators can apply at the registered local government office or the Korea Automobile Environmental Association.
Director Hong Dong-gon stated, “Along with grade 5 diesel vehicles, we are accelerating fine dust reduction in the transportation sector by expanding early scrapping support to grade 4 diesel vehicles and construction machinery,” and added, “We ask for active participation in the government’s vehicle emission reduction projects.”
