Without Leash or Muzzle... Pitbull Terrier Brutally Kills Maltese

Even the owner trying to stop the fight got injured

A horrific accident occurred where a large dog bit and killed a companion dog during a walk. The large dog was not wearing a leash or muzzle, and even the owner who tried to intervene was injured.

According to Yonhap News on the 9th, Mr. A, a man in his 50s living in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, experienced this accident on the afternoon of the 18th of last month while walking his Maltese companion dog near his apartment.

According to Mr. A, he was walking on the sidewalk with his companion dog when suddenly a large American Pit Bull Terrier appeared, ran at his dog, bit its head, and shook it violently.

Mr. A and the large dog's owner tried desperately to stop the situation, but it was to no avail. When he finally managed to separate the dogs, his companion dog's head was already covered in blood, and one eye was protruding, showing a tragic condition.

The companion dog was rushed to a nearby animal hospital, but the veterinarian said, "The skull is crushed, and nothing more can be done." Mr. A ultimately had to say goodbye to his companion dog, whom he had raised for over 10 years.

At the time of the accident, Mr. A was also bitten on the hand while trying to stop the large dog and sustained injuries. He was undergoing outpatient treatment for more than two weeks as he was taking immunosuppressants after a kidney transplant.

According to the Animal Protection Act, five dog breeds and their mixes?American Pit Bull Terrier, Dosa dog, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and Rottweiler?are classified as dangerous dogs.

Accordingly, when going out, they must wear a leash and muzzle, and owners must also subscribe to dangerous dog insurance.

However, according to Mr. A, the Pit Bull Terrier was only wearing a collar at the time and was not wearing a leash or muzzle. However, it was enrolled in dangerous dog insurance, and both parties are currently negotiating compensation for damages.

The owner of the offending dog told Yonhap News, "I was taking the dog out from inside the fence and was about to go behind the building when the dog suddenly saw Mr. A's companion dog and ran at it, causing me to lose control of the dog," adding, "It was an accident caused by carelessness and mistake."

Mr. A said, "Despite regulations on dangerous dogs, it is frustrating and heartbreaking that such accidents keep happening due to dog owners' careless behavior," and added, "I hope dog owners become more aware and cautious so that such accidents do not happen again."
