Men 267,000 Won... Women 293,000 Won
Desired Gifts... Men "Heart" Women "Cash"
When it comes to gifts they want to receive from their partners on birthdays or anniversaries, men preferred 'heartfelt sentiment,' while women favored 'cash' the most.
On the 9th, marriage information company 'Gayeon' conducted a survey on 'birthday gifts from partners' targeting 1,000 unmarried men and women (500 each). The result showed that the top desired birthday gift from a partner was cash (21.4%). This was followed by ▲electronic devices (19.7%) ▲heartfelt sentiment (19.4%) ▲accessories (13%) ▲clothing (11.9%) ▲bags (7.9%).
The preferred gifts differed by gender. For men, the top choice was heartfelt sentiment (27.2%), second was electronic devices (23.8%), and third was cash (19%). For women, cash ranked first (23.8%), accessories second (22.8%), and electronic devices third (15.6%).
Average Birthday Gift Cost 280,000 KRW... Women Spend More
In this survey, the average amount unmarried men and women spent on their partner’s birthday gift was 280,300 KRW per occasion. This is an increase of 31,500 KRW compared to the 248,800 KRW reported in the same survey conducted by Gayeon in December 2021.
One year ago, men spent more on birthday gifts, but in this survey, women were found to spend more. In 2021, women reported spending 240,600 KRW and men 257,000 KRW on anniversaries, but in this survey, men spent 267,000 KRW and women 293,000 KRW.
A Gayeon representative said, "Cash and electronic devices ranked first and second respectively, likely because they are gifts that rarely fail. Previously, people valued the symbolism or romanticism of gifts more, but nowadays, there is a noticeable trend toward valuing practicality and efficiency in gifts."
