Kim Kyung-ho, Gwangjin District Mayor, Shares 'Happy Communication' with Employees on Their Birthdays

The District Mayor Personally Sings a Birthday Song to Employees Celebrating Their Birthdays... and Shares Heartfelt Talks

Committed to Creating a Happy Workplace Atmosphere through Mutual Respect and Empathy Across Generations and Ranks, Fostering a Workplace Where People Want to Work

"I feel truly appreciated~"

"I'm glad I attended because our kind friend, District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho, empathized with the employees' feelings."

"I was touched by the various events prepared for us."

'Good friend' Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, once again brought smiles to the employees' faces.

Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) prepared a ‘Birthday Celebration Day’ on the 8th for employees celebrating their birthdays. This was a time of communication and empathy aimed at fostering a flexible organizational culture by energizing active communication between the mayor and employees.

The event invited employees with birthdays, starting with the mayor’s congratulatory remarks, followed by a birthday song, cake cutting, recreational activities, a Q&A session where employees shared stories they had kept in their hearts and listened to the mayor’s responses, and a raffle for ‘Small but Certain Happiness Coupons’.

First, on a warm spring day, the mayor personally sang a birthday song to the employees celebrating their birthdays, and through balance games and telepathy games, the ‘good friend’ mayor and employees enjoyed a pleasant, refreshing, and exhilarating time to see how well their hearts connected.

Next was a time to break down emotional walls and check employees’ true feelings. The mayor drew notes containing stories employees had kept inside from a suggestion box and responded, creating a time of empathy and attentive listening to deepen communication.

"Please pay attention to welfare for improving employees’ physical health,"

"What welfare would you like to provide to employees?",

"Important virtues of public officials," "Who is your life mentor?",

"Differences between the mayor and deputy mayor periods," and other suggestions regarding employee welfare, curiosities about the mayor, and advice based on his experience as a senior public official were shared, creating a warm atmosphere.

Finally, to commemorate the day together, a group photo was taken, and the event concluded with a raffle for ‘Small but Certain Happiness Coupons,’ small birthday gifts that bring definite happiness.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "You are the center of the universe. Don’t keep your thoughts to yourself; share and open up. Take responsibility for the roles given to you and overcome challenges together. You are not alone. If you bring all problems to me, I will be a good friend who thinks and solves them together."

The warm wave of organizational culture is gradually permeating Gwangjin-gu like a spring breeze, slowly melting the frozen hearts of employees. The district has declared its commitment to creating a happy workplace atmosphere through mutual respect and empathy across generations and ranks, lowering the temperature gap of the somewhat rigid and conservative public service culture.

At the first regular council meeting of the new year, the district held a ‘Communication Talk Concert’ and gained great response from employees through honest two-way communication in the ‘Straight Talk Chat Room.’

Going forward, Gwangjin-gu plans to accelerate efforts to become a ‘Happy Gwangjin that Communicates and Develops’ by sincerely approaching both employees and residents through various communication channels.
