Yeongyang County Office Staff Meet Okcheon’s Teacher Jo Deok-rin: Life and Transparency Like Ice Crystal

Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, is conducting a special exhibition tour of the Hanyang Jo Clan Okcheon Munjung’s “As Pure as Ice and Straight as an Arrow” from March 7 to 10 for 110 county office employees.

This special exhibition tour was planned to inspire the attitude and patriotism that Yeongyang public officials should have by reflecting on the transparency like ice and the wisdom of life of Okcheon Jo Deok-rin, who lived a life of integrity during the late Joseon Dynasty.

The participating employees spent time reflecting on the spirit of Okcheon Jo Deok-rin, preserved through generations, by viewing over 2,000 exhibited artifacts including old books, ancient documents, woodblocks, and calligraphy passed down at the Hanyang Jo Clan Okcheon ancestral home.

County Governor Oh Do-chang expressed his gratitude to the Hanyang Jo Clan Okcheon Munjung for donating ancestral artifacts and organizing the exhibition, saying, “I hope this tour provides a valuable opportunity for county employees to encounter the thoughts and spirit of Okcheon Jo Deok-rin.”

The special exhibition of donated artifacts from the Hanyang Jo Clan Okcheon Munjung is being held at the Korean Studies Advancement Center’s Confucian Culture Museum (Dosan-myeon, Andong City) from November 22, 2022, to May 28, 2023, for six months.
