Dongdaemun-gu Mayor Lee Pil-hyung successfully concluded the neighborhood resident communication meetings, which began on the 16th of last month in Dapsimni 1-dong and ended on the 2nd in Jangan 2-dong.
These resident communication meetings, held to realize communication administration that finds answers on-site, featured self-produced introduction videos of each neighborhood, stories of residents praised for their good deeds, and pre-performances through talent donations, adding fun and emotion that garnered positive responses from residents.
The meetings provided updates on major ongoing projects and the handling results of issues raised in previous meetings, along with neighborhood business reports, while listening to diverse opinions from residents of all walks of life. As a result, over 170 resident suggestions were received from 14 neighborhoods.
The resident suggestions collected on-site will undergo necessary procedures such as on-site verification, legal review, and consultation with related agencies by the relevant departments, after which results will be communicated back and continuously managed.
Mayor Lee Pil-hyung of Dongdaemun-gu said, “The residents I met directly on-site were always two steps ahead of me, and I am confident that through communication and effort, we can find better answers.” He added, “By attentively listening to voices from the field through open dialogue and based on harmony and communication administration, we will realize a pleasant, safe, and transparent future city Dongdaemun-gu.”
Gwanak-gu Mayor Park Jun-hee Keeps Promises with Residents through ‘8th Term Public Pledge Progress Report Meeting’
Careful Review of Progress on ‘6 Major District Goals and 60 Implementation Tasks’
Various Projects Tailored to Gwanak-gu’s Characteristics Including Gwanak S-Valley 2.0, Gwanak Youth Center, and Lifelong Learning Activation
On the 7th, Gwanak-gu Mayor Park Jun-hee held the ‘8th Term Public Pledge Progress Report Meeting’ to thoroughly check the progress of public pledge projects for the 8th term.
Under the core principles of ‘Innovation, Communication, and Cooperation,’ the district is steadily achieving 60 implementation tasks promised to residents under six major goals to realize ‘Together the Best Gwanak-gu’: ▲Together Economy ▲Together Welfare ▲Youth Special City ▲Best Education and Culture ▲Clean and Safe Living Environment ▲Innovative Gwanak Office.
First, ‘Together Economy’ strengthens the Gwanak S-Valley, initiated in the 7th term, into ‘Gwanak S-Valley 2.0,’ expanding the Gwanak S-Valley corporate support fund, establishing Gwanak Job Happiness Corporation, and founding the Gwanak Small and Medium Venture Promotion Agency to foster the startup ecosystem and expand jobs for residents, revitalizing the local economy.
‘Together Welfare’ aims to become the nation’s leading inclusive city by establishing policies for single-person households, building a disability center, operating the Gwanak Family Center, and building a dense welfare safety net that continuously identifies welfare blind spots to support stable lives for vulnerable groups such as single-person households, children, the elderly, and the disabled.
Given that Gwanak-gu has the highest youth population ratio among Seoul’s autonomous districts at 41%, the district carefully manages youth-targeted pledge projects. To create a ‘Youth Special City,’ it established the Youth Culture Bureau last November, opened the Gwanak Youth Center as a hub for youth policies, supports the Best Gwanak Youth Savings Account, and provides housing stability information, implementing socially and economically tailored youth policies.
It also fosters diverse educational environments for all ages through education environment improvement support, expanding lifelong learning lectures in cooperation with Seoul National University, youth talent development programs, and school-specific specialization projects. Additionally, it moves closer to ‘Best Education and Culture’ by strengthening the Kang Gam-chan brand power, creating a Gwanak cultural city, and expanding support for community sports.
Moreover, the district is working on creating a specialized space by linking the local attraction Starlight Rain Stream with the Sinlim Line station, restoring the Bongcheon Stream ecological river, building a carbon-neutral city, constructing light rail lines Nan-gok Line and Western Line, and expanding parking lots to make Gwanak a clean and safe living environment.
‘Innovative Gwanak Office,’ involving residents, collects opinions through operating the Gwanak Office, holding creative proposal contests, and running cooperative public forums, reflecting these in pledge execution to realize communication administration.
The district will continue to identify internal and external factors that may affect pledge fulfillment due to changing external conditions, analyze causes, and prepare countermeasures to keep promises to residents.
Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “I will continue efforts to earn residents’ trust with the belief that ‘fulfilling promises is the core of district administration.’”
Gangseo-gu Mayor Kim Tae-woo Eases Burden on Grandparents Caring for Grandchildren
First Seoul Autonomous District to Support College Tuition for Grandparent-Grandchild Families
Support Targets Grandchildren of Grandparent-Grandchild Families Eligible under Single-Parent Family Support Act
Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Tae-woo) announced that it will be the first Seoul autonomous district to support the first semester tuition fees for college freshmen from grandparent-grandchild families.
Grandparent-grandchild families are those where grandparents raise grandchildren due to the death of parents or other reasons; currently, about 20 such households reside in Gangseo-gu.
Among these, low-income grandparent-grandchild families often face situations where grandchildren give up their studies due to the economic hardship of grandparents and the burden of caregiving.
Since taking office, Mayor Kim has set ‘Walking Together with the Socially Vulnerable’ as one of the five major district goals, emphasizing reducing unnecessary budget expenditures and strengthening welfare for vulnerable groups.
This newly introduced project aims to alleviate the economic burden on low-income grandparent-grandchild students so they can focus on their studies stably. It is the first of its kind among Seoul’s autonomous districts.
The support targets are grandchildren of grandparent-grandchild families who have been registered residents of Gangseo-gu for more than six months and are eligible under the Single-Parent Family Support Act, enrolling as college freshmen in the 2023 academic year.
Support can be received regardless of basic living security status and can be combined with other supports. Even if the student moved to attend a university in another area, support is available if the grandparents are registered residents of Gangseo-gu. However, graduate students are excluded.
The support amount covers the difference between the total admission fee and first semester tuition and existing support such as national scholarships, up to a maximum of 5 million KRW.
Applicants can apply by visiting their local neighborhood community center by the 31st.
More detailed information, including application forms, can be found on the Gangseo-gu website under Notices/News.
The district plans to verify overlapping support such as national scholarships and pay tuition fees in June.
Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, “Not only grandparent-grandchild families but also students facing economic difficulties should never have to give up their studies. We will continue to discover welfare blind spots and practice happy companionship with the socially vulnerable so that neighbors in need do not give up their dreams.”
