Former Pastors Claim "JMS Had Sexual Relations with 10,000 Women as a Divine Command"

Prosecutor General Lee Won-seok has instructed to do his utmost to ensure that strict punishment is enforced against Jeong Myeong-seok, the president (78) of the Christian Gospel Mission (JMS), who has been detained and indicted on charges including quasi-rape.

On the morning of the 6th, Prosecutor General Lee received a report on the trial progress of Jeong Myeong-seok, who was detained and indicted last October on multiple charges including quasi-rape and forcible molestation, from Lee Jin-dong, head of the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office, at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office. At this meeting, Prosecutor General Lee ordered to make thorough efforts to provide meticulous support and protection for the victims and to do the best in maintaining the prosecution so that strict punishment commensurate with the crimes can be sentenced to Jeong Myeong-seok.

The Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office formed a prosecution maintenance team led by Kim Ji-hye, head prosecutor of the Women and Children Crime Investigation Division, to respond to the trial after detaining and indicting Jeong Myeong-seok on October 28 last year. The prosecution maintenance team includes three prosecutors with high expertise in related crimes, including certified deputy chief prosecutors in the field of sexual violence.

The Supreme Prosecutors' Office stated that it plans to conduct a strict investigation in close cooperation with the police regarding additional victims currently being investigated by the police.

Recently, a new Netflix documentary revealing the reality of Jeong Myeong-seok, titled I Am God: People Betrayed by God (hereinafter I Am God), has caused a great stir. Netflix released the eight-episode documentary I Am God on the 3rd, which deals with four individuals impersonating God and the stories of their victims. This documentary contains the realities of Jeong Myeong-seok, Lee Jae-rok, Kim Ki-soon, and Park Soon-ja, who called themselves gods, along with testimonies from victims.

In the episode titled JMS, Brides of God, a woman named Maple from Hong Kong, who claims to have been a victim of sexual crimes by President Jeong Myeong-seok, publicly revealed her name, face, and voice to expose the truth.

According to the documentary, in the past, Jeong Myeong-seok selected young female believers as his brides called ‘Faith Stars’ and managed them, during which he committed multiple sexual crimes. Furthermore, a petition from pastors who left JMS in 1999 contains testimony that Jeong Myeong-seok claimed, "Making 10,000 women into heaven’s lovers through sexual relations is heaven’s earthly command."

Jeong Myeong-seok was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2009 for sexually assaulting a believer and served his sentence before being released at the end of his term. However, from February 2018 to September 2021, immediately after his release, he was re-arrested last October on charges of forcibly molesting or quasi-raping a total of 17 times, including a female believer of Hong Kong nationality, at a training center located in Geumsan-gun, Chungnam Province, and is currently undergoing trial.

The prosecution believes that Jeong Myeong-seok committed the crimes by calling himself the Messiah to his believers and making them unable to refuse his words and actions. However, Jeong Myeong-seok denies the charges, stating, "I never brainwashed the victims, nor did I coerce, assault, or threaten them."
