Samsung Changwon Hospital Recruits Professor Jo Jae-won, Expert in Liver Cancer and Liver Transplantation

The Leading Figure Who Advanced Domestic Liver Transplantation to a World-Class Level

Sungkyunkwan University Samsung Changwon Hospital will begin consultations in March by recruiting Professor Jae-Won Cho, a world-renowned expert in liver cancer and liver transplantation from Samsung Medical Center.


Professor Cho graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine in 1982 and earned his master's and doctoral degrees from the same graduate school. In 1992, he trained in organ transplantation at Johns Hopkins Hospital and the University of Virginia Hospital in the United States. Subsequently, in 1994, he was invited as a founding member of Samsung Medical Center, where he served as the head of the transplant surgery department and director of the organ transplantation center. He is highly acclaimed as a scholar who has globally promoted the excellence of Korean liver transplantation techniques in countries such as the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and Nepal. He has also served as president of the Korean Society for Liver Transplantation and as academic chairman of the Korean Society for Transplantation, and currently serves as president of the Korean Society for Transplantation, contributing to the advancement of domestic medicine.

With the recruitment of Professor Jae-Won Cho, Samsung Changwon Hospital has assembled a top-tier medical team in Korea covering all areas of severe liver diseases, from diagnosis and surgery to transplantation. The current director, Professor Kwang-Chul Ko of the Department of Gastroenterology, is recognized as the nation's leading expert as president of the Korean Association for the Study of the Liver, and the medical staff who have already worked closely at Samsung Medical Center are now collaborating seamlessly.


Professor Cho stated, “Gyeongnam is known as a region with a relatively high incidence of liver cancer nationwide. Through patient-centered care, I will do my best to help local liver disease patients regain healthy lives.”
