Mapo-gu Spring Cleaning Campaign

Mapo-gu Spring Cleaning Campaign

Public-Private Cooperation for Spring Cleaning in Hongdae Street and 16 Other Neighborhoods

Park Gang-su, District Mayor: “Creating a Clean Environment to Restore Residents’ Health and Vitality”

Mapo-gu (District Mayor Park Gang-su) will conduct a large-scale “Spring Cleaning” on the 8th at 7 a.m. along Hongdae Street, stretching a total of 1,150 meters near Hongdae Entrance Station.

This cleaning event, which had been suspended due to the spread of COVID-19, will be held for the first time in four years. It is expected to serve as a welcome signal marking the declaration of the COVID-19 endemic and the return to normal daily life.

Starting from Exit 9 of Hongdae Entrance Station, the event will be divided into two sections, covering Hongdae Fashion Street and Sangsangmadang. About 250 participants, including Mapo-gu employees, residents, professional organizations, and companies, will gather to pick up trash around roads and public facilities and perform water cleaning to remove dust accumulated over the winter.

Simultaneously, over 1,500 people will participate in self-organized “Spring Cleaning” activities across all 16 neighborhoods, targeting areas vulnerable to cleaning such as habitual illegal dumping sites, shopping districts, and places with heavy foot traffic. Notably, the cleaning efforts in each neighborhood will involve “voluntary cleaning participants” composed of residents and students, emphasizing the community’s joint commitment to local cleanliness.

District Mayor Park Gang-su stated, “I hope this ‘Spring Cleaning’ will be an opportunity to sweep away not only the accumulated dust but also the frustrations caused by COVID-19.” He added, “Since a clean environment is directly linked to residents’ health, we will continue to work together with the public and private sectors to cultivate a clean and vibrant Mapo.”

Meanwhile, the district has designated March as the “Spring Cleaning Special Period” to proactively respond to expected fine dust and yellow dust inflows during spring. They plan to deploy dust suction and water cleaning vehicles to remove fine dust and conduct cleaning and safety inspections of public facilities, such as outdoor exercise equipment, which have seen less use during the winter.

Seongbuk-gu Launches Resident-Led Spring Cleaning in 20 Neighborhoods from the 2nd... ‘Boosting Vitality’

Targeting alleys, habitual illegal dumping zones, and side streets vulnerable to cleaning

High-pressure water trucks and vacuum street cleaning vehicles deployed for extensive cleaning under the Inner Circular Road

Seongbuk-gu (District Mayor Lee Seung-ro) began spring cleaning with residents from the 2nd. Mayor Lee Seung-ro and staff from the district office and neighborhood community centers rolled up their sleeves to sweep away the dust accumulated over winter in alleys, habitual illegal dumping zones, and side streets across 20 neighborhoods.

About 100 residents from neighborhood autonomous cleaning groups and professional organizations participated early in the morning. Kim (resident of Seokgwan-dong) said, “Waking up early is not easy, but I couldn’t miss the chance to contribute to our community, so I grabbed a broom again this year. Sweeping away the dust and enjoying the spring energy really revitalizes me.”

The district deployed cleaning vehicles such as high-pressure water trucks and vacuum street sweepers extensively for this cleaning. They washed the underside of major overpasses with heavy vehicle traffic to maintain the environment.

Seongbuk-gu’s resident-led cleaning activities have played a role beyond environmental maintenance, establishing a foundation for on-site administration that communicates with residents. Since the launch of the 7th local government in 2018 under the slogan “Seongbuk’s Future, Finding Answers on Site,” cleaning has always involved Mayor Lee Seung-ro and district executives visiting every alley to inspect and listen to residents’ voices.

Mayor Lee Seung-ro said, “Seongbuk-gu has a large floating population and heavy vehicle traffic on the Inner Circular Road, requiring special attention and effort for environmental maintenance. Through resident-led cleaning, we will not only create a safe and pleasant living environment but also continuously secure residents’ interest and participation in on-site activities.”

Airport Bus No. 6102 Operating Between Dobong-gu and Incheon Airport

Starting March 1, departing from Ssangmun Station

15 trips daily (4:20 a.m. to 5:20 p.m., intervals of 25 to 160 minutes)

Dobong-gu (District Mayor Oh Eon-seok) announced that starting in March, Airport Bus No. 6102 to Incheon Airport is operating from Ssangmun Station as its starting point.

Previously, Dobong-gu only had an airport bus from Chang-dong Station to Gimpo Airport, so residents had to use private cars or travel to Surak Terminal in Nowon-gu to reach Incheon Airport, causing inconvenience.

With the COVID-19 endemic phase leading to increased overseas travel, the district anticipated growing demand for access to Incheon Airport among Dobong-gu residents. After consultations with Korea City Airport Transport Co., Ltd., the airport limousine operator, and Seoul City, the route approval authority, the starting point of Bus No. 6102 was changed from Suyu Station to Ssangmun Station to allow Dobong-gu residents to use the bus to Incheon Airport.

From March 1, Bus No. 6102 will depart from the Ssangmun Station (central lane) bus stop, passing through Suyu Station and Gireum Station, running 15 times daily between 4:20 a.m. and 5:20 p.m. at intervals of 25 to 160 minutes.

Mayor Oh Eon-seok said, “The stop at Dobong-gu for the Incheon Airport bus is expected to greatly improve transportation convenience for local residents. We will continue to monitor and improve to ensure residents are not excluded or inconvenienced when using public transportation.”

The district is currently conducting a “Dobong-gu City Bus Route System Reorganization Project” to improve public transportation accessibility between transport hubs and plans to establish a resident-friendly public transportation operation system through this effort.
