The Only Local Government Selected in Gyeongnam Province
Sacheon City in Gyeongnam has been selected for the Ministry of Employment and Labor's '2023 Youth Challenge Support Project' and secured over 400 million KRW in national funding to support youth who have given up job searching.
The Youth Challenge Support Project is designed to assist young people who have given up on job seeking by supporting their participation in the labor market and employment. Among local governments in Gyeongnam Province, Sacheon City was the only one selected.
This year, the city plans to operate the Youth Challenge Support Project with a total budget of 432 million KRW, including 401 million KRW in national funds and 31 million KRW in city funds, providing career exploration and customized employment information to youth who have given up job searching.
The project is divided into a short-term program (Challenge) lasting about one month and a mid- to long-term program (Challenge+) lasting five months or more.
Eligible applicants are youth aged 18 to 34 who have no history of employment, education, or vocational training participation for the past six months, youth preparing for independence, and youth who have entered or exited youth shelters.
Additionally, youth aged 18 or older who have been protected in youth shelters for more than one year and North Korean defectors aged 18 to 34 can also apply.
Participants who complete the short-term program (Challenge) will receive a participation allowance of 500,000 KRW, and those who complete the mid- to long-term program (Challenge+) will receive up to 2.5 million KRW. Participants who complete the entire long-term program will receive an additional incentive of 500,000 KRW.
Sacheon City and the Gyeongnam Headquarters of the Korea Labor Education Promotion Institute signed a business agreement for the Youth Challenge Support Project on the 3rd and will establish a cooperative system.
Both organizations agreed to discover youth who have given up job searching and youth preparing for independence, provide customized programs to restore job-seeking motivation and strengthen confidence, and cooperate in supporting labor market participation and employment.
Mayor Park Dongsik said, “By leveraging the strengths of both Sacheon City and the Korea Labor Education Promotion Institute, we will build a mutually cooperative relationship to provide quality education and employment opportunities to youth, which will serve as a good opportunity to contribute to the increase of the youth population.”
