Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) discussed cooperation measures to find the hidden heroes of our community together with the Army Headquarters’ ‘Korean War Medal Recovery Investigation Team (Leader Shin Ki-jin)’ at 10 a.m. on the 3rd.
The Ministry of National Defense has organized the ‘Korean War Medal Recovery Investigation Team’ at the Army Headquarters to deliver medals to war heroes or their bereaved families who were decided to be awarded medals during the Korean War but have not yet received them, and is promoting the ‘Finding Our Local Heroes Campaign.’
At the meeting held at Dongdaemun-gu Office, eight people including Mayor Lee Pil-hyung, Colonel Shin Ki-jin, leader of the Army Headquarters Investigation Team, and Ha Chang-sik, head of the Dongdaemun-gu branch of the War Veterans Association, continued discussions to effectively promote the ‘Finding Our Local Heroes Campaign.’
The ‘Korean War Medal Recovery Investigation Team’ plans to designate April 10 to 14 as the focused inquiry period in Dongdaemun-gu and carry out investigation activities.
The district plans to actively cooperate in inquiries near the registered addresses by conducting computerized searches of resident registration and family registers based on the military service records of the war heroes, along with multifaceted campaign promotions, to help find the rightful recipients of the medals.
For the heroes confirmed within the district, the district office will present the medals with the highest honors, including a medal awarding ceremony hosted by the mayor.
Residents who know the awardees or their families can check the ‘List of Medal Recipients’ posted on the Ministry of National Defense or Army Headquarters websites and then contact the ‘Korean War Medal Recovery Investigation Team.’
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “The freedom and peace we enjoy today were made possible by the sacrifices of hidden heroes who protected the Republic of Korea. We ask for the residents’ great interest in this campaign to find the heroes who dedicated themselves to the nation, and we will spare no support to find the rightful recipients of the medals.”
