Jinju Asia Weightlifting Championships Expected to Be the Largest-Ever Event

Pre-Entry Registration Results: 349 Applicants from 36 Countries

As a result of the preliminary entry registration for the 2023 Gyeongnam Jinju Asia Weightlifting Championships, 349 participants from 36 countries have registered, making this year's Jinju event expected to be the largest Asia Weightlifting Championships in history.

The entry registration was conducted for about 50 days starting from January 12, and as of the deadline at 6 a.m. Korean time on March 3, a total of 349 athletes from 36 countries had applied.

This is a remarkable scale compared to the past 10 years of Asia Weightlifting Championships, which averaged 190 participants from 29 countries.

Jinju City and the Organizing Committee have made continuous efforts to ensure that the event will be a grand competition with as many participants as possible. The Organizing Committee widely promoted the event by sending newsletters twice to the Asian Weightlifting Federation (AWF) and 45 national weightlifting federations containing information about major events such as the Lantern Festival, accommodation, transportation, tourism, and competition details. In January, invitation letters specifying competition regulations and hotel information were also sent out to raise awareness of the event.

Additionally, they actively promoted the Jinju event by continuously participating in international competitions such as last year's World and Asia Weightlifting Championships, receiving enthusiastic responses. Notably, at the 2022 Asia Junior and Youth Weightlifting Championships held in Uzbekistan in July last year, Mayor Jo Gyu-il (Chairman of the Organizing Committee) personally gave a presentation about the event, firmly impressing the global weightlifting community with the city’s commitment and capability in preparing for the competition.

This competition is the first Asia Weightlifting Championships to apply an online registration system for entry registration, which received positive feedback from Asian weightlifters and improved efficiency in registration and management. Furthermore, a communication SNS channel was opened for participating countries to provide convenience through information delivery and Q&A.

The final entry registration for this competition will close on April 3. Until the final entry deadline, the Organizing Committee plans to do its best to ensure that as many participants as possible attend the Jinju event.

Moreover, the city and the Organizing Committee, through consultations with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will support expedited visa issuance, and are committed to flawless preparations until the end to match the status of the largest-ever competition in terms of participants, including fast and convenient transportation, clean and comfortable accommodation, diverse and delicious food, and exciting and colorful cultural tourism events.
