LG Uplus Spoky to Live Stream the 'World Baseball Classic'

LG Uplus announced on the 5th that its integrated sports community platform 'Spoky' will live broadcast the 'World Baseball Classic (WBC)' held from the 8th to the 21st.

Spoky is a sports community service launched by LG Uplus last year as part of the U+3.0 platform business strategy to expand digital touchpoints with sports fans. It provides the latest news and popular YouTube and broadcast videos of various domestic and international leagues by sports categories such as baseball, soccer, basketball, golf, volleyball, billiards, bowling, and fishing.

LG Uplus established '2023 WBC' on Spoky and will live broadcast all 47 games of the WBC, which runs until the 21st. Following the 2022 Qatar World Cup last year, WBC is the second international sports event for which Spoky provides live broadcast services.

The WBC section offers game schedules, match brackets, and highlight videos of past games. There are no advertisements, and no separate membership registration is required, making it easy to watch.

Reflecting customer needs actively, Spoky recorded a cumulative user count of 8.3 million as of the end of February, a 60% increase compared to 5.2 million at the end of December. Considering that the number of visitors reached 3 million during the Qatar World Cup broadcast period, it is expected that the cumulative number of users will exceed 10 million after the WBC broadcast.

In addition to the WBC live broadcast, Spoky is preparing to provide live broadcast services for exhibition games and the regular season in line with the upcoming Korea Professional Baseball (KBO) opening season. Along with this, features tailored to customer needs such as personalized game alarm settings, cheering team selection, and artificial intelligence (AI) match outcome prediction will also be introduced.
