POSCO International announced on the 5th that it will increase its budget for solar power facility support by 25% compared to last year. This is part of its social contribution activities in response to the increased burden on energy-vulnerable groups due to rising electricity and gas prices.
The company has been conducting various energy efficiency improvement projects. The household heating and cooling efficiency improvement project targets energy-poor households by providing floor heating installation, boiler and window replacements, mainly focusing on old houses in Seo-gu, Incheon. So far, 444 households have benefited.
A POSCO International employee is visiting an old house in Seo-gu, Incheon, to carry out work aimed at improving energy efficiency. In Gwangyang, where there is an LNG terminal, solar power facilities are supported for welfare facilities. Thirty-nine welfare facilities, including local nursing homes, have received assistance. Since 2012, company employees have also been visiting energy-vulnerable households to conduct electrical safety inspections and replace old wiring.
The company estimates that these activities reduce energy costs by 150 million KRW annually. The reduction in carbon dioxide emissions is equivalent to 690,000 kg, which is the same as planting 180,000 pine trees. The company emphasized that the focus is not on one-time financial support but on building infrastructure that enables energy-vulnerable groups to become self-reliant.
