This year's spring flowers are expected to begin blooming in mid-April and reach their peak in mid-May.
The Korea Forest Service announced the "2023 Spring Flower Blooming Forecast Map" on the 4th.
The spring flower forecast map was jointly created by the Korea National Arboretum, the National Institute of Forest Science, and nine regional public arboretums.
The subjects are the blooming times of trees such as azaleas, cherry blossoms, and forsythias growing naturally in 15 forest areas and nine national and public arboretums by region.
Forsythias are expected to start blooming on the 20th of this month at Wando Arboretum, and on the 23rd at Gyeongnam Arboretum and Halla Arboretum, respectively.
Azaleas are predicted to begin blooming on the 13th of this month in Jeju Island, with blooms expected in May at Mt. Hwaak in Gangwon and Mt. Sobaek in Chungbuk, indicating significant regional differences, according to the Korea Forest Service.
Cherry blossoms are expected to bloom on May 1st in Jeju and on May 30th at Mt. Gwangdeok in Gangwon, which is relatively later than other species.
Kim Ki-hyun, head of the Forest Environment Protection Division at the Korea Forest Service, said, "The Korea Forest Service predicts and discloses blooming times by region focusing on representative tree species of domestic forests. We will continue to strive to provide useful services for daily life, such as spring flower blooming information, to the public."
