Sports Marketing Momentum, Customized Support with Expert Placement
Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, delivered an impressive sports marketing performance by successfully concluding the winter training camps in 2022 and 2023.
According to the county on the 4th, during the winter season that began at the end of last year, 134 teams across 14 sports, totaling around 40,000 participants, visited for training camps.
This is the highest number since training camps were suspended in 2020 due to COVID-19, with visits from athlete groups continuing for over two months starting with the fencing team on November 28 last year.
As of March, four teams are still training, and the winter season is planned to conclude by the 30th.
In particular, numerous teams leading Korea’s sports world visited, including the national modern pentathlon team, the national modern pentathlon youth team, the national track and field reserve team, middle- and long-distance athlete groups, the national track and field youth team, and the national track and field gifted athlete team, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a national athlete village.
Additionally, institution-based teams from sports high schools in Gyeonggi, Busan, and Gyeongbuk, with large numbers of participants, visited, and in January, the number of training athletes temporarily approached 1,200, resulting in the entire Haenam-eup bustling with sports players in a remarkable scene.
Through joint training camps such as the Seoul Wrestling Association’s combined training, as well as soccer, fencing, and track and field stove leagues, athletes’ skills were significantly enhanced.
Haenam-gun’s successful sports marketing strategy is analyzed to have been effective due to not only specialized facilities but also customized services provided by sports professionals.
During the peak training season from January to February, Haenam-gun deployed training experts who are former national team medical trainers and professionally supported training schedules through one-on-one communication with team coaches, managing training routes and providing rehabilitation training consultations for injured athletes.
Moreover, meticulous management of athlete rest, including local tourism and cross-sport experiences, earned high praise as sports marketing that moved participating athletes.
Starting in March, Haenam-gun will host nationwide sports competitions. Beginning with the 60th Spring National Boys’ and Girls’ Middle and High School Basketball Tournament on the 14th, which will feature about 1,000 athletes, 25 nationwide competitions will be held in Haenam throughout the year.
During the boys’ and girls’ middle and high school basketball tournaments, the county introduced a professional rehabilitation training team for the first time nationwide last year to support injured athletes who lack professional medical trainers, providing sports taping services to prevent injuries, which received enthusiastic responses.
County Governor Myeong Hyeon-gwan stated, “We have done our best to support athletes training in Haenam so they can achieve their desired results with top performance,” and added, “We will continue to expand sports marketing, which is driving local economic revitalization as a smokeless clean industry.”
