After Buying Fruit at the Market, Sent to the 'Jangae Adong Jiwon Center'

First Lady Kim Keon-hee, wife of President Yoon Suk-yeol, visited a traditional market and participated in river cleanup activities in Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do on the 3rd. This market visit by the First Lady comes two months after her visit to Daegu Seomun Market in January.

On that afternoon, the First Lady visited Pohang Jukdo Market, which suffered difficulties due to last year’s flood damage, to encourage the merchants. She inquired about recent sales trends and purchased flatfish, fruits, gimbap, vegetables, and snacks for the staff. Notably, after buying 10 boxes of apples at a fruit store, she sent them to 'Doumteo Gippeum-ui Jip,' a support center for children with disabilities in Pohang.

Earlier in the morning, she participated in an environmental cleanup activity near Gigaecheon Stream in Gigae-myeon, Pohang, along with about 300 people including members of the Pohang Saemaul Association and university club members. They threw mud balls to help purify the water and picked up trash along the stream. The First Lady said to the university volunteers, "I have high hopes as it seems that the Republic of Korea is becoming younger through your participation in the Saemaul Movement."

According to an official from the Presidential Office, this is the third time the First Lady has participated in volunteer activities invited by the Saemaul Association, following Busan in December last year and Daegu in January. Her consecutive market visits appear to be aimed at comforting citizens suffering from rising prices and heating costs. Pohang is also a region that suffered significant damage from last year’s floods.
