Ye Sang-gyun, the chief prosecutor of the Public Prosecution Department and an inaugural member of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO), has tendered his resignation.
According to sources in the legal community, Chief Prosecutor Ye submitted his resignation this week due to personal reasons.
Chief Prosecutor Ye began his career as a prosecutor at Changwon District Prosecutors' Office in 2001. After serving as a professor at Yeungnam University School of Law in 2014, he joined the CIO. He then served as the head of the Case Analysis and Investigation Division and the Human Rights Investigation Policy Division before being promoted to chief prosecutor in October last year, taking charge of the Public Prosecution Department.
Once Chief Prosecutor Ye's resignation is accepted, only seven of the original 13 first-term prosecutors at the CIO will remain. Currently, the CIO operates with 23 prosecutors, two short of its full quota of 25.
