Severe Drought in Southern Region... Ministry of Environment Urged to Prepare Contingency Plans and More
President Yoon Suk-yeol on the 3rd urged thorough preparations for the drought in the southern region.
Kim Eun-hye, the Chief Public Relations Officer of the Presidential Office, told reporters at the Yongsan Presidential Office in the afternoon, "The drought in the south is unprecedented, so the president received a report and gave instructions," conveying this message.
In particular, President Yoon instructed, "If an additional emergency situation arises, the Ministry of Environment should prepare contingency plans, such as supplying industrial water to the (Yeosu·Gwangyang) industrial complexes by drawing water from the main stream of the Seomjin River."
Meanwhile, the southern region has recently been experiencing severe drought, causing difficulties in water supply. It has been reported that industrial complexes such as Yeosu National Industrial Complex and Gwangyang National Industrial Complex are reducing factory operations due to a shortage of industrial water. In response, the government took measures last month through the National Policy Coordination Meeting to adjust the annual maintenance schedule of the Yeosu and Gwangyang industrial complexes and reduce factory water usage.
