LG Uplus Launches 'Carbon Neutrality Challenge' with Employees

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] LG Uplus announced on the 3rd that it will conduct the 'Carbon Neutrality Challenge' as the first employee social contribution activity of 2023.

Held for the third time following last year, this Carbon Neutrality Challenge is an activity to practice carbon neutrality by reducing carbon emissions in daily life and certify it through the 'Climate Action 1.5℃' app. Climate Action 1.5℃ is an app created by the Korea Climate and Environment Network under the Ministry of Environment. In the challenge with LG Uplus, it offers 10 easy-to-practice actions such as 'using a rinsing cup' and 'using reusable shopping bags instead of plastic bags.'

This Carbon Neutrality Challenge will run for a total of 15 days from February 28 to March 14. Any LG Uplus employee can participate. To encourage more employee participation, LG Uplus plans to provide various prizes such as a 'tube dispenser' that squeezes out contents like toothpaste and hand cream without waste, and a 1-meter oversized snack house, based on team achievement rates.

Last year, about 460 teams participated in the Carbon Neutrality Challenge held by LG Uplus, recording over 6,400 cumulative practices.

Following the Carbon Neutrality Challenge, LG Uplus plans to continue environmental preservation activities involving employees in the first half of this year, including ▲ 'Hope Tree,' which grows acorn seeds and returns them to the forest to nurture it ▲ 'Frog Ladder,' which installs ladders on slippery cement irrigation channels to help amphibians move ▲ 'Store ESG,' which recycles uniforms that cannot be worn in directly managed stores ▲ 'Soil Balls,' which make beneficial microbial soil balls and throw them into nearby rivers and streams ▲ and a cherished item sharing auction.

Lee Hong-ryeol, Head of ESG Promotion Office at LG Uplus, said, “This challenge was prepared to let employees know that practicing carbon neutrality in daily life is easy,” adding, “We will seek various ways to establish environmental preservation as a lifestyle habit rather than a one-time event.”
