On the afternoon of the 2nd, Shinan-gun, Jeollanam-do held a report meeting on the acceptance of Shinan offshore wind power fishermen at the Grand Ballroom on the 4th floor of the Ramada Hotel in Gwangju.

About 200 people attended the meeting, including Park Woo-ryang, Mayor of Shinan-gun, Kim Hyuk-seong, Chairman of the Shinan County Council, Kim Jang-su, President of the Shinan Fishermen's Association, and Lee Do-young, Chairman of the Shinan Offshore Wind Power Development Council.

At the meeting, explanations were given on the background and necessity of offshore wind power in Shinan-gun, the current status of the fisheries industry, and coexistence measures.

The Shinan Fishermen's Association (hereinafter referred to as the Association) issued a statement ahead of the meeting, declaring that it will firmly respond in solidarity with the residents of Shinan-gun to promptly promote the 8.2GW offshore wind power project to revitalize the local economy and create new income for fishermen.

The Association expressed deep concern about the survival rights of fishermen due to global warming causing a decrease in catch volume, rising oil prices, and Japan's decision to discharge radioactive contaminated water from Fukushima.

They stated, "We agree with the global transition to renewable energy in response to the RE100 declaration by conglomerates and the climate crisis," and demanded that "the government immediately establish coexistence measures for fisheries and reasonable compensation plans for the promotion of offshore wind power."

They also raised their voices, strongly urging the government to immediately promote the 8.2GW Shinan offshore wind power project to prevent the failure of investment in fishing activities due to uncertainties surrounding offshore wind power.
