Daegu Suseong University overcame the challenging admissions environment caused by the absolute decline in the school-age population and achieved 100% enrollment of new students in this year's admissions. Last year as well, Suseong University achieved 100% enrollment, making it the only university in the Daegu area to record 100% new student recruitment for two consecutive years.
Suseong University anticipated the decline in the school-age population and continuously reduced its enrollment quota while conducting proactive structural adjustments such as establishing new departments to prepare for the Fourth Industrial Revolution era. It also steadily strengthened the university’s internal capabilities by creating an adult learner-friendly educational environment to support lifelong learning, which is analyzed to have contributed to achieving a 100% new student enrollment rate for two consecutive years.
In the 2023 academic year admissions, which closed at midnight on the 28th of last month, Suseong University enrolled a total of 1,392 new students, including 1,212 within the quota and 180 outside the quota, achieving a 100% enrollment rate.
In preparation for the absolute decline in the school-age population, Suseong University reduced its recruitment by 300 students over the past five years through the closure of marginal departments and proactively responded by establishing departments suited for the Fourth Industrial Revolution era, such as Metaverse Creator, AI Big Data, Drone Mechanics, and Webtoon Story.
Additionally, from the perspective of lifelong education, the university operated weekend and evening classes and offered curricula designed for adult learners planning their second careers, which also proved effective.
Moreover, the university focused on strengthening its internal capabilities by expanding scholarships, constructing state-of-the-art dormitories, building lecture halls and multipurpose auditoriums for nursing and health-related students, and introducing various scholarship systems and improving the educational environment for students.
Kim Iyung, Director of Admissions and Public Relations at Suseong University, said, “Our university’s efforts in proactive structural adjustments in anticipation of the absolute decline in the school-age population seem to have been effective in achieving these results. We plan to further strive to create a student-friendly university by boldly restructuring, creating a pleasant educational environment, and expanding scholarships to strengthen the university’s internal capabilities.”
