Alcohol, Let's Now Drink Only What Tastes Good!
These days, rather than drinking to get drunk, I prefer to slowly savor good-tasting alcohol. Have I become an adult? The editor, who used to be a strong soju fan, is now exploring various types of alcoholic beverages and has found a few favorites to share. They include a variety of fruit wines, wine, and Makgeolli, and I wanted to share them because they’re too good to keep to myself. Whether drinking alone or enjoying a cozy time with loved ones, here are three great drinks to try. Stay tuned!
Half Bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon
The purple liquid inside the green soju bottle is none other than wine. It’s exclusively available at CU convenience stores, so if you’ve found a full bottle of wine too much to enjoy frequently, this is for you. The wine is made by Daesun Brewery, which usually produces soju in Busan. This wine is a 2021 vintage Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon red wine. Both the volume and taste are approachable. It maintains a well-balanced profile with moderate tannins and body, making it recommended for wine beginners. The alcohol content is 13%, and it pairs well with any side dish. The editor is currently obsessed with pairing red wine with vegetable gopchang (intestines)♥
Strongbow Gold Apple
Strongbow was recommended by a friend who easily gets drunk even from a single can of beer. You can choose between Ros? Apple and Gold Apple flavors. To try the classic apple cider, I chose Gold Apple. It contains a whopping 26.4% concentrated apple juice. When poured into a glass, it shows a clear, bright yellow color with a sweet apple aroma gently spreading around. The scent has little alcohol smell, making you want to take a refreshing shot. Although I thought the carbonation would be strong, it dissipates quickly. It’s a flavor I’d recommend anytime?during meals or as a dessert drink. The alcohol content is 4.5%.
Ahopssal Makgeolli
If you’re looking for delicious Makgeolli, pause your scroll for a moment. The last drink I recommend today is Ahopssal Makgeolli, produced by Hana Brewery. It has an alcohol content of 9%, and the brewery transformed from a rice cake shop in the back alleys of Bangbae-dong into a place making alcohol instead of rice cakes. This unfiltered rice wine is brewed solely with Baekjinju rice and contains no sweeteners, resulting in less of the typical lingering heaviness of Makgeolli. It has a mild carbonation that makes it easy to drink. However, be careful when opening the bottle. If you shake it and then open it, you’ll have a mess. Never shake it; instead, open the cap slightly to release the carbonation, then gently swirl and open it carefully as if handling a child. The photo on the bottle is said to be of the brewery owner’s childhood.
