Game Records, Joint Marketing of Public R&D Outcomes Underway
The Korea Technology Finance Corporation (Chairman Kim Jong-ho, hereinafter referred to as Kibo) announced on the 2nd that it will conduct joint marketing for technology transfer and commercialization targeting approximately 4,700 patented technologies held by 56 universities and government-funded research institutes.
This joint marketing initiative was established to promote the transfer and commercialization of public research and development (R&D) outcomes that have potential market value but remain underutilized. It also supports open innovation in the private sector for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that find it difficult to develop technologies independently or secure intellectual property rights.
The technology transfer will be conducted through sales or non-exclusive licensing methods. The transaction price varies depending on the transferring institution and patented technology, ranging from 2 million to 30 million KRW. Notably, about 80% of the transaction prices are set below 5 million KRW, allowing SMEs to acquire patented technologies at relatively low costs.
Kibo has reduced the brokerage fee from the previous 15% to 10%, and if the 'Smart Tech Bridge' electronic contract system is used, it will be further reduced to 8%. Companies that sign technology transfer contracts through joint marketing and subscribe to the Intellectual Property Mutual Aid can also receive partial support for rights transfer costs.
Kibo plans to promote joint marketing of approximately 4,700 patents with 56 technology supplying institutions in the first half of this year. This is a significant increase compared to the 2,680 cases with 34 institutions conducted in the second half of last year, and it is expected that technology transfer will be further activated.
Kim Jong-ho, Chairman of Kibo, stated, "Kibo actively supports SMEs that find it difficult to commercialize through their own technology development to secure technological competitiveness by introducing external technologies." He added, "We will continue to pursue various support measures to promote technology transfer and commercialization."
