Reenactment Performance, Waves of Cheers and Taegeukgi Flags
The shout of "Long live Korean independence" echoed throughout Daejeon-ri, Songra-myeon, Pohang.
On the 1st, Pohang City held the '104th Anniversary of the March 1st Movement Commemoration Ceremony' in Daejeon-ri, Songra-myeon, Buk-gu, attended by about 300 people including Vice Mayor Kim Nam-il, veterans' organizations, bereaved families, students, and citizens.
The ceremony began with a flower offering and bell ringing to honor and commemorate the spirits of the 14 patriots of Daejeon-ri at the Daejeon March 1st Movement Memorial Hall. It proceeded with the reading of the Declaration of Independence by Lee Byung-chan, a distinguished professor at Keimyung University and descendant of patriot Lee Jun-seok, followed by a report on the history of the March 1st Movement in Daejeon-ri, commemorative speeches, and the singing of the March 1st Movement anthem.
As a post-ceremony event, the municipal theater troupe staged a reenactment performance of the March 1st Independence Movement. Starting with the theater troupe, all attendees held Taegeukgi flags and shouted "Long live Korean independence," recreating the passionate cheers and waves of Taegeukgi flags from that day 104 years ago in 1919.
Additionally, at the entrance of the event venue, a pinwheel Taegeukgi model was installed to reflect on the significance of the March 1st Movement and to honor the patriotic spirit of love for the country. Around the Daejeon March 1st Movement Memorial Hall, murals depicting the March 1st Independence Movement were also created to help citizens remember the scenes of that day.
Kim Nam-il, Vice Mayor of Pohang City, said, "We deeply reflect on the noble spirit of sacrifice of the local patriots from Songra and Cheongha who resolutely rose for the independence of the homeland," adding, "Let us inherit the passionate spirit of patriotism and courage, and with a sense of mission, gather wisdom and capabilities to create a new history and pass on a better future to our descendants."
