Ordered Two Plates of Tomato Pasta at Popular Restaurant
Debate on SNS Over "Ordering Different Dishes to Share"
U.S. President Joe Biden and his wife have sparked controversy online over the food they ordered at a restaurant. The reason is that they ordered the same dish side by side.
The Washington Post (WP) reported on the 28th (local time) that “President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden recently dined at a restaurant in Washington DC and ordered the same tomato pasta.”
At the time, the Bidens ordered two plates of rigatoni, a type of pasta, along with a chicory salad and toasted bread with butter at the popular Washington DC restaurant ‘Red Hen.’
However, the fact that the rigatoni ordered by the Bidens was the same tomato pasta unintentionally sparked controversy on social media (SNS). A debate ensued with comments such as “It’s almost taboo for couples or spouses to order the same food when dining out.”

In response, many agreed that “it’s better to order different dishes to experience a variety of foods,” while some pushed back, saying, “Is there a rule that couples can’t eat the same food?”
The Washington Post concluded the article by quoting a Washington DC resident who said, “The rigatoni at ‘Red Hen’ is so good that you have to eat a whole plate by yourself,” adding, “Even those who believe couples should share food sometimes have to claim a plate alone because it’s just too delicious.”
In the U.S., the president’s meal choices are a minor but popular topic among the public. Since taking office, President Biden has also attracted attention for his friendly image, such as when he visited an ice cream shop and ordered several flavors, including his favorite chocolate chip ice cream.
