A cover dance video of an Indian movie theme song, produced by the entire staff of the Embassy of South Korea in India, is receiving an explosive response locally.
On February 26 (local time), Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared the video posted the previous day by the Embassy of South Korea in India on its official social media account, praising it as "a vibrant and lovely team effort."
Indian ministers, including Law Minister Kiren Rijiju and Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur, also retweeted the video in succession. In particular, Minister Thakur praised it in Korean, saying, "Awesome."
The video on the Korean Embassy's Twitter account surpassed 3.5 million views in just one day, while the version shared by Prime Minister Modi has also exceeded 2.3 million views, drawing significant attention.
This video is a cover of the group dance scene from "Naatu Naatu," a song from the film "RRR" (Rise Roar Revolt), which was a major box office hit in India last year. "Naatu Naatu" won the Best Original Song award at the 80th Golden Globe Awards last month, marking the first time an Indian film has received this honor at the Golden Globes.
The 53-second video features embassy staff and diplomats joyfully dancing in costumes similar to the movie's main characters or in traditional Indian attire. Cultural center staff and local students dressed in Taekwondo uniforms also appear, with dozens of participants performing a group dance in front of the ambassador's residence pavilion, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Leading local media outlets such as the Hindustan Times and NDTV have also given prominent coverage to the Korean Embassy's video, highlighting it in their reports.
Ambassador Jang Jaebok stated, "K-pop and Korean movies are loved by many people in India, and we wanted to show that we also enjoy and appreciate Indian culture," adding, "Respect for the host country's culture is the foundation of public diplomacy."
Meanwhile, to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and India this year, the Embassy of India in Korea is planning a variety of events.
