Gang Arrested for Kidnapping Acquaintance Over Unpaid Investment Money

Charges of Joint Confinement and Other Offenses under the Act on Punishment of Violent Crimes

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] A group who kidnapped an acquaintance, claiming they would not return the invested money, has been arrested by the police.

On the 28th, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul is investigating two men in their 30s, A and B, on charges including joint confinement under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes by Violence.

They are accused of visiting Mr. C's office in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, around 3:20 a.m. that day, spraying his face with spray and subduing him with a telescopic baton before forcibly putting him into a car.

A and B allegedly drove around with Mr. C in the car for about two hours and were arrested as fugitives around 5:45 a.m. on a road in Bongdam-eup, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi Province. They ignored warnings to stop the car and fled about 1 km, but were eventually caught when their escape route was blocked. The Hwaseong Western Police Station, which arrested them, handed the case over to the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul, which has jurisdiction.

According to the police, A and B committed the crime after recently investing money and not being able to get it back from Mr. C.

A police official stated, "We are verifying the exact circumstances of the incident" and added, "We plan to review whether to apply for an arrest warrant."
