Korea GM Begins North American Export Shipments of Trax Crossover

Chevrolet Trax Crossover, Korean GM's first crossover vehicle, has begun shipment for export to North America.

Korean GM announced on the 27th that the first shipment of the Trax Crossover North American model was made at Masan Gaposhin Port in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do. The initial shipment volume is about 5,000 units, all destined for the North American market.

Roberto Rempel, President, said, "I am confident that the Trax Crossover will have enough demand to operate the largest production line at the Changwon plant," adding, "We will do our best in early quality control by pooling company-wide capabilities and actively respond to global demand through production optimization and efficiency."

GM first unveiled the Trax Crossover in the North American market in October last year. North American Chevrolet dealers highly praised the Trax Crossover for its spacious interior, new features, and modern, stylish design. Korean GM plans to operate the Changwon and Bupyeong plants at full capacity by the second quarter to meet the global demand of up to 500,000 units annually. At the same time, preparations for domestic model mass production are proceeding without delay. The domestic launch is scheduled for the first quarter.

Additionally, GM has made a large-scale facility investment worth 1.1 trillion KRW in the Changwon and Bupyeong plants for the mass production of the Trax Crossover. This large-scale investment is expected to revitalize not only the parts industry but also the local economy. Lee Jong-won, CEO of Masan i-Port (operator of Masan Gaposhin Port), said, "The global success of the Trax Crossover is expected to greatly contribute to the regional economy through port revitalization," and added, "We will spare no support and effort to ensure smooth shipment."

Meanwhile, along with the Trax Crossover, the compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) Chevrolet Trailblazer continues to enjoy steady popularity in the global market. The Trailblazer, along with its sibling model, the Buick Encore GX, has been actively entering overseas markets since 2020. As of January, cumulative sales reached 451,981 units (based on GM performance data).
