Bucheon City Renews March Citizen Safety Insurance... Coverage Up to 15 Million KRW

Addition of Death Coverage Items for Social Disasters

Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it will renew and implement the Citizen Safety Insurance starting from March 1.

The Citizen Safety Insurance is a system where Bucheon City fully covers the insurance premiums and pays up to 15 million KRW in insurance benefits to citizens who suffer from aftereffects or death due to natural disasters, fires, collapses, and other incidents.

Citizens registered in Bucheon (including registered foreigners) are automatically enrolled and can receive insurance benefits if they suffer damages covered by the insurance items. The insurance period is from March 1 of this year to February 29 of next year.

The coverage items include ▲death from social disasters ▲death from natural disasters ▲death or aftereffects from explosions, fires, or collapses ▲death or aftereffects while using public transportation ▲injuries from traffic accidents within school zones ▲death or aftereffects from gas-related accidents, totaling nine items. Among these, the death from social disasters item was added this year to expand the coverage scope.

In particular, this year, the maximum coverage amount for explosions, fires, collapses, and public transportation items was increased from 10 million KRW to 15 million KRW. The maximum coverage amount for other items remains at 10 million KRW.

To claim insurance benefits, the victim or legal heir must submit the required documents to the insurance agency (Korea Local Finance Association) within three years from the date of the incident.

Jo Yong-ik, Mayor of Bucheon, stated, "We analyzed the performance of the past three years and prepared improvement measures such as increasing the coverage amount. We will promote various policies to provide economic assistance to citizens who suffer unexpected accidents or damages."
