The Korean Regional Development Association is a prestigious society composed of experts in the field of national land and regional development in Korea with a 40-year history, and the award ceremony was held at the 2022 regular general meeting.
The book "The Present and Future of Island Policy" comprehensively analyzes the establishment of the definition of islands, the value and characteristics of islands, living conditions, residents’ consciousness structures, and the policies that have been implemented in Korea so far, and deeply presents a rational future development direction for islands. It was also selected as an excellent academic book by the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Korea in 2022.
Professor Shin Soon-ho said, “I want to find the significance of publishing this book in properly revealing the importance and uniqueness of islands at a time when the international importance of islands is increasingly rising, correcting Korea’s mistaken perceptions about islands, and proposing proper policies.”
Professor Shin Soon-ho, who served as a professor at Cheongju University and has been a professor in the Department of Cadastral Studies at Mokpo University since 1985, is currently an emeritus professor. He has been continuously conducting research related to islands and is one of Korea’s leading island experts, having authored numerous papers and books in this field.
Along with his vigorous research activities, Professor Shin has actively participated in national policies, serving as a member and evaluation team leader of the Presidential Committee on Balanced National Development, and more recently as a chief advisor for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ Saemangeum New Village Project.
