[Breaking] Lee Jae-myung Arrest Motion 'Rejected' Amid 'Invalid Ballot' Controversy

Failed to Achieve Majority with 139 Votes in Favor

The arrest motion against Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, was rejected in the plenary session of the National Assembly on the afternoon of the 27th.


The arrest motion is passed if a majority of the members present out of the total members attend and a majority of those present vote in favor.


In the plenary session that day, out of 299 total members, 297 participated in the vote on the arrest motion for Lee, with 139 votes in favor, 138 against, 11 invalid votes, and 9 abstentions, resulting in rejection.


During the counting process that day, the vote counting committee had differing interpretations regarding the invalid votes, causing the counting to be delayed by more than an hour.
