Buk-gu Paldal vs Habin Daepyeong Two-Way Competition
Promotion of Previous Work After Hong Jun-pyo's Inauguration
Daegu City held a briefing session on the morning of the 27th at 11 a.m., attended by about 100 distribution workers, regarding the "Feasibility Study and Basic Plan Establishment Service for the Relocation of Daegu Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market."
This briefing was organized to listen to the opinions of distribution workers ahead of selecting the relocation site and establishing the basic plan, in order to simultaneously address the current wholesale market's issues such as disaster prevention due to aging facilities, introduction of advanced logistics systems, and response to future demand, which are being promoted through the market relocation.
Regarding the selection of the relocation site, the procedures and methods were explained in detail so that the related distribution workers could easily understand.
Daegu City is holding an explanatory meeting for workers involved in the distribution of agricultural and marine products regarding the relocation of the Daegu Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market.
The selection of the relocation site for the agricultural and marine products wholesale market will be finalized by the end of March through a fair and objective evaluation process, including thorough on-site investigations and analyses, and verification by a professional evaluation team, targeting two candidate sites: Paldal District in Buk-gu, covering approximately 280,000㎡, and Daepyeong District in Habin-myeon, Dalseong-gun, covering approximately 290,000㎡, both recommended by districts and counties in January.
After relocation, plans will also be made to develop the former site in a way that harmonizes well with the surrounding conditions.
Daegu City has been making every effort to gather opinions from distribution workers by holding meetings and briefing sessions related to the wholesale market relocation for distribution workers and representatives in December and February as well.
Jo Sook-hyun, Director of the Agricultural Distribution Division of the city, said, “We plan to proceed with the wholesale market relocation without any setbacks by fully listening to the opinions of distribution workers, and we will find the optimal plan to further revitalize the existing site after relocation.”
The Daegu Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market, located in Maechon-dong, Buk-gu, Daegu, opened in 1988, and due to aging facilities, relocation efforts have been underway since 2007. However, after three rounds of research services, it was concluded that the facility modernization would be carried out through expansion and reconstruction.
However, since Hong Jun-pyo took office as mayor of Daegu in July last year, the relocation process has been rapidly promoted. Currently, the Daegu Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market operates about 300 agricultural product stores and 8 marine product corporations.
