Management of High-Emission Facilities and Prevention of Illegal Burning in Rural Areas
The Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office will implement the ‘Comprehensive Spring Response Plan for High-Concentration Fine Dust (PM-2.5)’ from the 27th through March 31 to address the occurrence of high concentrations of fine particulate matter during the spring season.
As part of the implementation tasks of the ‘4th Seasonal Fine Dust Management Plan,’ strengthened measures will be applied across the industrial, power generation, transportation, and daily life sectors. In the industrial and power generation sectors, executives will directly manage major fine dust-emitting facilities to encourage voluntary reduction efforts, and enforcement against illegal activities at key air pollution-prone industrial complexes and large-scale facilities will be intensified.
Sixteen major fine dust-emitting facilities will be managed intensively by executives to increase attention to fine dust emission reduction measures and enhance voluntary compliance. Jointly with local governments, the Environmental Corporation, FITI, and others, advanced monitoring equipment will be used to conduct focused surveillance and inspections of illegal emissions at 13 key industrial complexes.
This inspection will deploy four mobile monitoring vehicles and four drones capable of measuring real-time air pollution levels, one spectroscopic device (SOF), and one optical gas imaging camera (OGI) to minimize blind spots in monitoring.
Additionally, ten integrated permit and total air pollutant emission management facilities will be subject to focused management regarding air emissions, pollution control facilities, and proper operation of TMS (Tele-Monitoring System). In the transportation sector, joint inspections with local governments will be conducted on vehicles equipped with diesel particulate filters (DPF), and inspections on compliance with restrictions on the use of old construction machinery at construction sites will be expanded.
In the daily life sector, continuous encouragement will be given to fine dust reduction measures at dust-generating facilities. Illegal burning will be monitored comprehensively using advanced monitoring equipment, focusing on areas preparing for spring farming.
Joint inspections with local governments will focus on dust-generating facilities to verify the implementation of fine dust reduction measures such as operation of wheel washing facilities and cleaning of surrounding areas. In regions with high fine dust emissions from biological combustion?Geochang, Miryang, Jinju, Hamyang, and Hapcheon?advanced monitoring equipment such as drones and mobile monitoring vehicles will be used to eliminate blind spots in illegal burning surveillance.
Director Hong Dong-gon stated, “We will work closely with all sectors of the community to respond comprehensively to reduce high concentrations of fine dust across various sectors,” and added, “We also urge local residents to actively participate in reducing fine dust in daily life by using public transportation and reducing standby power consumption.”
