Comparing Donggwoldo to Explore the Old Appearance of Changgyeonggung Palace

Special Viewing Operation at Changgyeonggung Management Office

The Changgyeonggung Office of the Cultural Heritage Administration will operate a special tour called "Changgyeonggung Special Viewing with Donggwoldo" in front of Okcheon Bridge starting from the 5th of next month. This program allows visitors to learn about the old appearance of Changgyeonggung before it was damaged during the Japanese colonial period, through the national treasure Donggwoldo and explanations by expert guides. Donggwoldo is a painting of Changgyeonggung and Changdeokgung estimated to have been created between 1826 and 1830.

The Changgyeonggung Office will introduce the former pavilions every Sunday at 1:30 PM and 2:30 PM until May 28. This includes the Dochongbu (都摠府), which was responsible for military affairs in the Gwolnaegaksa (闕內各司) area, the Naesaboksi (內司僕寺) which managed horses and palanquins, the Donggung area which was the Crown Prince’s space, and Jagyeongjeon, built by King Jeongjo for his mother, Lady Hyegyeonggung Hong. The currently remaining Myeongjeongjeon, Hwanghwadang, Gyeongchunjeon, Tongmyeongjeon, Yanghwadang, and the area around Chundangji, which was altered during the Japanese colonial period, will be explained by comparing them with the images depicted in Donggwoldo.

The viewing time is approximately one hour. Each session accepts up to twenty participants on a first-come, first-served basis at the site. For more details, please refer to the Changgyeonggung Office website.
