The National Fire Agency announced on the 27th that it will carry out the 'Junior Heroes' project targeting the adolescent children of firefighters who died in the line of duty or were injured on duty, in collaboration with the Youth Root Foundation (Chairman Kim Jeong-tae).

Previously, in June of last year, the National Fire Agency signed a business agreement with the Youth Root Foundation and Hana Bank to improve the welfare of firefighters and support the healthy growth of their adolescent children.

Since then, the Youth Root Foundation has been operating various programs for the adolescent children of firefighters who sacrificed their lives or were injured to protect the lives and property of the public, including ▲ psychological healing through healing camps ▲ residential environment improvement projects such as study rooms ▲ and job experience programs to discover aptitudes during adolescence.

First, the healing camp, which explores domestic and international cultural heritage and forms emotional bonds by understanding parents' occupations through self-help groups, is a project that helps the psychological healing of children of deceased firefighters. In July last year and January this year, a total of 60 adolescent children of deceased firefighters participated in a 3-day, 2-night overseas cultural exploration and psychological healing sessions.

Also, ‘Kkumteo’ is a residential environment improvement project such as remodeling study rooms. Last year, 14 study rooms were remodeled to improve the learning environment for adolescent children, providing an environment where they can continue their studies and nurture their dreams.

Lastly, through the job experience program ‘Kkumgil,’ experiential programs are provided to help adolescents explore their aptitudes and career paths according to their developmental stages. From December last year to March this year, 500 children participated in job experience activities.

Additionally, 44 elementary school students participated in the Junior DT University coding education program jointly conducted by Hana Financial TI and the Youth Root Foundation, and high school and university students were given opportunities to gain in-depth knowledge about the field and companies through tours of the Hana Financial Group Integrated Data Center.

Nam Hwa-young, Acting Commissioner of the National Fire Agency, said, “We appreciate the Youth Root Foundation’s continuous welfare support for the families of firefighters who died or were injured on duty,” and added, “The National Fire Agency will do its best to honor the noble sacrifice and dedication of firefighters and will also promote practical and diverse firefighting policies that the public can feel.”
