Walking Tours Every Saturday and Sunday from March, Accompanied by 'Busan Architecture Culture Guides'
Centum City, UN·Culture, Old Downtown, Dongnae Tradition... 4 Architectural Cultural Heritage Courses
Busan City and the Busan International Architecture Festival Organizing Committee (Executive Chairman Lee Seong-ho) will operate the “Ttubuk Ttubuk, Busan Architecture Tour” twice a week every Saturday and Sunday starting this March to expand the base of architectural culture.
“Ttubuk Ttubuk, Busan Architecture Tour” is an annual citizen-participation architectural tour designed to properly promote the excellence of Busan’s architectural culture.
The courses include the representative urban architectural cultural assets: ▲Centum City Architecture ▲UN & Cultural Architecture ▲Old Downtown Architecture courses, as well as the ▲Dongnae Traditional Architecture course, which gained much popularity after its release in the second half of last year. All courses take about 2 hours and 30 minutes on foot. Each course is accompanied by a professional architectural guide called the “Busan Architectural Culture Guide.”
▲The Centum City Architecture course allows participants to explore modern architectural buildings reflecting the future city of Busan by visiting the Busan Museum of Art, BEXCO, Shinsegae Mall S Garden, and the Busan Cinema Center located in Haeundae-gu.
▲The UN & Cultural Architecture course explores modern and contemporary architectural buildings related to Busan’s unique patriotic and veterans’ cultural heritage and memorial facilities, centered around the Busan Cultural Center, National Museum of Forced Mobilization under Japanese Occupation, UN Peace Memorial Hall, and UN Memorial Park in Daeyeon-dong, Nam-gu.
▲The Old Downtown Architecture course involves walking around the Daecheong-dong area in Jung-gu, visiting the Baeksan Memorial Hall, former Hansung Bank, Busan Meteorological Observatory, and the Anglican Cathedral of Busan, exploring modern architecture that reflects Busan’s identity and history.
In particular, participants can also hear explanations about the former Busan Modern History Museum building, which has been newly renovated and opened as the annex of the Busan Modern History Museum on March 1.
The ▲Dongnae Traditional Architecture course, added in the second half of last year, is meaningful in that it was composed mainly of traditional architecture remaining in the Dongnae-gu area, actively reflecting the interests and opinions of participants from existing courses.
Starting from the Dongnae Eupseong Imjin War History Museum inside Suan Station on Line 4, the tour visits Jang Gwancheong, Dongheon, Dongnae Hyanggyo, and the fortress, exploring the Joseon Dynasty Dongnae-bu architecture that preserves Busan’s history and tradition.
The tours start at 2 p.m. every Saturday and 10 a.m. every Sunday for each course, and applications can be made through the Busan Architecture Festival website.
The participation fee is 5,000 KRW per person, and participants receive a small souvenir reflecting the characteristics of each course. Before joining the tour, participants can familiarize themselves with the representative buildings of each course on YouTube’s “Busan Architecture Festival TV.”
On March 18, the “Ttubuk Ttubuk Busan Expo Tour” will be held to raise public interest and participation in the bid for the 2030 Busan World Expo.
This event is planned to highlight Busan’s past, present, and future through the history tied to spaces while exploring Busan’s old downtown, the only city with the history of a wartime capital, which has grown into a Eurasian gateway city.
Those wishing to participate can check the application details through Busan City’s official social media (SNS) from the 27th until March 8, and the participation fee is free.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, “Excellent architectural cultural assets make Busan an attractive city,” adding, “I hope citizens have a good experience of love and pride for the Busan they live in through the ‘Ttubuk Ttubuk, Busan Architecture Tour.’”
