SKT to Showcase 10 Innovative AI Technologies at MWC

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] SK Telecom will open a solo exhibition hall at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 23, held over four days from the 27th (local time) in Barcelona, Spain, showcasing innovative information and communication technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), urban air mobility (UAM), and 6G.

The SKT exhibition hall is located in Hall 3 of Fira Gran Via, traditionally the core exhibition hall most visited by attendees. It is the largest battleground at MWC where leading global information and communication technology (ICT) companies gather to display future technologies and services. SKT will set up its exhibition alongside global ICT big tech companies such as Samsung, Deutsche Telekom, Qualcomm, and Nokia.

At this MWC23, SKT will vividly convey the AI innovations led by AI company SKT to visitors by demonstrating SKT’s AI technologies and services that lead innovation across society, along with AI technologies developed in collaboration with various domestic and international partners.

Demonstration of 10 Innovative AI Technologies and Services Led by the Large-scale AI Model A. Dot

SKT will showcase a total of 10 AI technologies and services to global visitors at this MWC. SKT will exhibit ▲ the large-scale AI model A. Dot ▲ the AI semiconductor Sapeon, which acts as the brain of AI ▲ vision AI applied in various fields such as robotics, security, media, and healthcare ▲ the location AI solution LITMUS, usable in smart city and transportation sectors ▲ and the medical AI ‘Excalibur’ that assists in X-ray diagnosis of pets, among other technologies.

In particular, at MWC23, SKT will demonstrate the A. Dot service equipped with 'long-term memory' technology that remembers old information for use in conversations, and 'multi-modal' technology that can understand complex information including text, photos, and voice. Visitors can also meet partner companies that share SKT’s AI company leap and growth. SKT will introduce technologies developed together with partners driving AI innovation such as Conantechnology, MOLOCO, BESPIN GLOBAL, Swit, and Phantom AI.

Experience Full-scale UAM Model Aircraft ... 6G, Metaverse, and Quantum Innovation Technologies

SKT offers visitors the experience of flying over Seoul and Busan in 2030 by combining a full-scale UAM model aircraft based on the aircraft of the world-leading UAM company 'Joby Aviation', with which SKT has an exclusive partnership, and a virtual experience simulator. Beyond simple flight, visitors can experience services that will be used when utilizing UAM in the future, such as connected transportation, battery charging, and inflight infotainment. Visitors can pilot the aircraft themselves through the flight simulator and use SKT’s self-developed 4D trajectory-based flight control platform to perform trajectory prediction, collision management through route deviation alarms, and on-time departure and arrival management.

Along with this, SKT will also showcase technologies and visions that use drones for building and quality verification of aerial networks essential for stable UAM flight, and expand UAM into logistics business by linking with robotics technology.

SKT will also present next-generation communication technologies. In addition to 5G, it will exhibit transparent antenna technology that can improve frequency performance in candidate bands for 6G, as well as intelligent networks and power-saving infrastructure enhanced by applying AI and cloud technologies across base stations, core networks, and terminals. Visitors can also experience the metaverse service 'ifland'. They can create their own space in the virtual world, invite people, and design their own outfits to apply to their avatars. The economic system to be applied in 'ifland' will also be introduced.

Proposing AI-based ESG Promotion Plans at Startup Exhibition ‘4YFN’

As a side event of MWC23, SKT will introduce innovative ideas and technologies including 14 startups pursuing ESG and its own ESG projects under the slogan 'Think Tomorrow, Do ESG!' at 4YFN (4 Years from Now), held in Hall 8.1 of Fira Gran Via. MWC has treated bridging the digital divide and social inequality through ICT technology development as an important agenda. ‘4YFN’ has become a communication platform where startups pursuing social value actively exchange ideas.

SKT will showcase various AI services that help socially vulnerable groups by integrating AI technology. These include the AI visual assistance voice guidance service ‘Sullivan Plus’ (SKT x TwoArt), elderly care services using AI speakers, the walking navigation for the visually impaired ‘G-EYE with VLAM’ (SKT x LBStech x Sapeon), and ICT-based mobility services for the hearing impaired ‘Goyohan M’ (SKT x Coactus).

SKT will also introduce various services from innovative startups that have received investments from or were selected as excellent companies by the ESG fund operated by SKT. These include a braille publishing platform for the visually impaired (Sensi), an AI-based Korean language education app (H2K), a solution minimizing food waste using AI data (Nubee Lab), and a solution detecting abnormal behavior using vision AI (E2ON), all contributing to making a better world through AI technology.

Park Kyu-hyun, head of SKT Digital Communication, said, “We planned this so that visitors can vividly experience the new world that AI innovation will bring,” and added, “We hope to widely promote SKT’s world-class technologies and services to the world through MWC23.”
