President Yoon Suk-yeol canceled the appointment of lawyer Jeong Soon-shin as the head of the National Investigation Headquarters on the 25th.
On the same day, Kim Eun-hye, the presidential office's chief spokesperson, stated in a written briefing, "President Yoon Suk-yeol canceled the appointment of Jeong Soon-shin as the head of the National Investigation Headquarters around 7:30 PM today."
She added, "Since the term was set to begin tomorrow, Sunday, please be informed that this was a cancellation of the appointment rather than a resignation acceptance or a dismissal."
Lawyer Jeong issued a statement on the day, saying, "Due to concerns raised by the public regarding my son, I have come to the conclusion that I cannot possibly fulfill the heavy responsibility of the head of the National Investigation Headquarters with such a flaw," and announced, "I withdraw my application for the position of head of the National Investigation Headquarters."
