4 Years and 6 Months Imprisonment, 100,000 Won Fine Sentenced
A teenager who secretly sold cryptocurrency owned by his girlfriend's father and pocketed more than 600 million won was sentenced to prison.
According to Yonhap News on the 25th, the Ulsan District Court Criminal Division 12 (Chief Judge Hwang Un-seo) sentenced A (19) to 4 years and 6 months in prison and a fine of 100,000 won on charges of fraud and others.
A was prosecuted on charges of embezzling cryptocurrency worth about 610 million won owned by his girlfriend's father, Mr. B, in March of last year. He accessed the cryptocurrency exchange using Mr. B's mobile phone, which his girlfriend secretly took from home, and sold the virtual currency owned by Mr. B, converting it into about 50 million won. Afterwards, A exchanged cryptocurrency worth 610 million won owned by Mr. B a total of 27 times over about two weeks using the same method, then transferred the money to a bank account of an acquaintance to embezzle it.
During the investigation, it was revealed that A used this money to purchase a luxury imported car and also as investment funds.
Separately, A was also tried on charges of extorting money and assaulting high school classmates and juniors. He was involved in reckless motorcycle riding, caused a car accident while driving, and fled the scene.
The court stated the sentencing reason, saying, "A consistently shifts all responsibility onto his girlfriend with implausible excuses. Severe punishment is inevitable as the victim suffered significant property damage."
