Snow-Covered Roads Icy... Caution for Traffic Safety and Pedestrians

As of the evening of the 25th, the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) issued a heavy snow warning predicting more than 15 cm of snow in the mountainous areas and the east coast of Gangwon Province, with over 14 cm of snow having fallen in Sokcho.

The KMA stated on the day, "As of 9 a.m. on the 25th, heavy snow warnings are in effect for Yeongdong region of Gangwon, the northern east coast of Gyeongbuk, and the northeastern mountains of Gyeongbuk."


Currently, a heavy snow alert is in place for Sokcho, while heavy snow advisories have been issued for Gangneung, Donghae, Taebaek, Samcheok, Goseong, and Yangyang.


As of 9 a.m., snowfall measurements were 14.1 cm in Sokcho, 9.6 cm in Jumunjin (Gangneung), 7 cm in Samcheok, 5.8 cm in Donghae, and 5.2 cm in Taebaek.


By the afternoon of the same day, an additional 5 to 15 cm of snow is expected in the Yeongdong and central-southern regions of Gangwon, and 3 to 8 cm more in the northern Yeongdong area.


The KMA urged, "Heavy snowfall is expected to continue in Yeongdong, Gangwon until the afternoon of the 25th. Snow on the roads may turn into ice, making them very slippery, so please be cautious about traffic safety and pedestrian safety."
