At this subcommittee meeting, standing committee council members and advisory committee members discussed the 2023 committee activities and operation plan (draft).

Ahead of the 413th extraordinary session of the provincial council starting tomorrow, they listened to the current status of major tasks in the fields of culture, tourism, and sports and sought development plans.

Chairperson Lee Seung-a said, “Now is the time for Jeju’s culture, tourism, and sports to seek and consider future directions in line with the COVID-19 endemic phase,” adding, “We have prepared this opportunity to hear the voices from the field from advisory committee members regarding major provincial government issues to be addressed at this February extraordinary session.”

She continued, “We will listen carefully to the valuable suggestions and advice proposed at the subcommittee meeting and reflect them in our legislative activities.”

The advisory committee members attending the subcommittee meeting requested that the provincial council fulfill its role as the representative body of the residents to revive the depressed local economy and improve the quality of life for residents, noting that although residents’ lives have become more difficult due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic combined with economic and financial crises, face-to-face events such as festivals, cultural arts, and sports have recently increased.

The Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Council Advisory Committee is a system operated to strengthen legislative functions and promote communication with residents through advisory activities on legislative work and proposals for legislation and policies. Currently, a total of 55 members have been appointed across seven subcommittees by standing committee.

Meanwhile, the Culture, Tourism, and Sports Subcommittee was newly formed in September last year with seven members and will be active until the end of June 2024.
