Helping Hands Continue in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju for 'Turkey and Syria Aid'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Warm-hearted support to help the recovery of T?rkiye and Syria, which suffered damage from a major earthquake, continues in the Gwangju area.


According to Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 23rd, the Gwangsan-gu Regional Children's Center Association donated 1.36 million won collected by children from 59 regional children's centers in Gwangsan-gu to the Korean Red Cross on the 21st.

Some of the donation was raised from the proceeds of a bazaar directly held by children from the ‘Eokkaedongmu Regional Children's Center’.


Jang Seokbok, president of the Gwangsan-gu Regional Children's Center Association, said, “The children of the regional children's centers gathered their hearts to comfort the citizens of T?rkiye and Syria who lost precious family and friends due to the major earthquake,” adding, “I hope this sentiment is conveyed and that the recovery proceeds quickly without further damage.”


Children from the Haengboknanum Regional Children's Center (Director Kim Myungok) in Hanam-dong also contributed their warmth.


They decided to donate 210,000 won, which they had saved over three years for experiential activities, to the recovery and relief efforts for the earthquake victims in T?rkiye.


Earlier, the Samdo-dong Residents' Autonomy Committee also decided to support children and families suffering from the earthquake damage in T?rkiye and Syria by donating 800,000 won to the official account of the Embassy of T?rkiye in Korea, the official donation channel.


The Songjeong 1-dong Community Security Council (Chairman Ki Youngcheol) also donated 1.8 million won collected little by little by the committee members and village children to ‘Save the Children’.


Ki Youngcheol, chairman of the Songjeong 1-dong Community Security Council, said, “Village residents and children joined forces to share the pain with those who lost their homes due to the earthquake and to participate in relief support,” adding, “We sincerely hope that the citizens of T?rkiye and Syria do not lose hope and courage and quickly regain their daily lives.”
