Mokpo National University Selected as Operating Institution for 'Exploring Life through Art' for 3 Consecutive Years

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] The Cultural Arts Education Project Group of Mokpo National University (President Song Ha-cheol) has been selected as an operating institution for the '2023 Theme-Centered School Cultural Arts Education Support Project: Exploring Life through Arts,' supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service.

According to the project group on the 23rd, since 2021, they have been conducting a theme-centered school cultural arts education project linking schools in Jeollanam-do, Jeollabuk-do, and Gwangju Metropolitan City with artists. This year, the scope has expanded to include the Jeju area, marking the third consecutive year of being selected as a representative operating institution in the Honam region.


The theme-centered school cultural arts education support project, 'Exploring Life through Arts,' aims to expand students' diverse opportunities to access the arts and support their growth into creative and convergent thinkers capable of responding to future society.


In particular, it reflects the perspective of future education that incorporates newly emerging values such as the humanistic approach to technology and an ecological viewpoint beyond anthropocentrism. It focuses educationally on strengthening future education talents who require self-directed convergent thinking to solve complex problems.


Kim Cheol-woong, head of Mokpo National University’s Cultural Arts Education Project Group and professor of the Department of Music, said, “The entire process of 'Exploring Life through Arts,' selected for three consecutive years, undergoes IT-based archiving (utilizing homepage, SNS, YouTube) through interactions among support institutions, operating institutions, participating groups’ teachers, artists, and students, accumulating into a project bank that is continuously shared with those in need.” He added, “We expect that the achievements of this project will contribute to enhancing the diversity of school cultural arts education by establishing a virtuous cycle structure where it is incorporated as a major activity in school curricula.”
