Namhae-gun, Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction ... Electric Vehicle Distribution

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] Namhae-gun, Gyeongnam Province, is promoting the ‘2023 First Half Electric Vehicle Distribution Project’ to reduce fine dust and greenhouse gas emissions.

Namhae-gun will invest 2.015 billion KRW to distribute a total of 130 eco-friendly electric vehicles, including 65 electric passenger cars and 65 small electric cargo vehicles. Electric passenger cars will receive up to 13 million KRW, and small electric cargo vehicles will receive up to 18 million KRW in differentiated support depending on the vehicle type.

The eligible applicants are residents who have had an address in Namhae-gun for at least three months prior to the application date, as well as local corporations, businesses, and public institutions. Selection of recipients will be based on the order of vehicle delivery and registration. However, since the number of vehicles available is limited, applicants must confirm the availability of subsidy support before applying.

Information on eligible electric vehicle models and subsidy amounts can be found in the announcement section on the Namhae-gun Office website or on the Ministry of Environment’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Integrated Portal.

In particular, subsidies will not be provided if two or more vehicles of the same model are purchased within two years for electric passenger cars or within five years for electric cargo vehicles. However, for corporate vehicles, purchases of two or more vehicles can be made through the Korea Environment Corporation starting this year.

To receive the electric vehicle subsidy, buyers must visit the car dealership or agency to sign a vehicle purchase contract and submit an application form. The dealership will then apply to Namhae-gun through the Zero-Emission Vehicle Purchase Subsidy System using the submitted documents.

Recipients of the electric vehicle subsidy must comply with a mandatory operation period of five years. If the mandatory operation period is not fulfilled or if the subsidy was obtained through fraudulent means, the subsidy will be reclaimed.

For further inquiries regarding electric vehicle purchases, contact the Namhae-gun Office Environment Division or the Integrated Call Center.

Lee Jun-pyo, head of the Environment Division, said, “We plan to continuously expand support for private purchases of eco-friendly energy vehicles to create a clean air environment,” and added, “We ask for active interest and participation from residents who wish to replace or plan to purchase vehicles.”
