Lee Jae-yong Inspects New TV Model "Pay Attention to Remote Control Channel and Volume Keys"

Meeting Employees: "I Should Have Studied Chinese and French Too"

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong visited the TV business site to review key products. Samsung Electronics plans to launch new OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) TV models next month for the first time in 10 years.

On the 21st, Chairman Lee met with the management of the Visual Display (VD) division at Suwon Digital City to review this year's business strategy and examine new products. They checked pricing, competitiveness against rivals, and improvements in TV software (SW) and user interface (UI).

On the 9th of next month, Samsung Electronics will release its 2023 TV lineup, including Neo QLED and OLED TVs. Chairman Lee said, "Users tend to use the channel and volume keys the most, so sometimes they press the wrong buttons unintentionally," adding, "It would be good to pay attention to such detailed aspects during the design process."

He also showed interest in next-generation products such as Micro LED. They discussed core technology protection measures and market expansion strategies. Micro LED is a product where LEDs at the micrometer (㎛) scale emit light and color by themselves without backlights or color filters. Samsung Electronics is known to plan to launch an 89-inch Micro LED this year.

At a meeting with new employees of the VD division, Chairman Lee emphasized the importance of studying foreign languages. He said, "I regret not studying foreign languages more," and added, "I speak English and Japanese and am trying not to forget them. I also regret not studying Chinese and French."

He further stated, "Learning a foreign language means learning the thinking, values, and history of that country, so I hope you all study foreign languages more."

As a memorable business trip destination, he mentioned the Panama Canal. He said, "The vast scenery is spectacular, but what amazed me was how human wisdom and labor harnessed the great power of nature."

Chairman Lee has recently been visiting domestic business sites one after another to reassess business strategies and plan investments to discover future growth engines. He visited Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Yuseong Training Center on the 1st, Samsung Display Asan Campus on the 7th, and Samsung Electronics Cheonan and Onyang Campuses on the 17th.
